News from the Framework Programme

Call for Submissions for the "Bosphorus Prize" Essay Competition

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Blickwechsel: Contemporary Turkey Studies, GeT MA - German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences and Berlin Bosphorus Initiative are partnering to offer a prize for papers on "Rethink Europe's Future: Analyzing new geopolitical positioning of Germany and France and their implications on Turkey's European integration process". This year's prize will publicly be awarded during a joint panel event in Berlin.

Upcoming Events

The Blickwechsel framework programme organizes the event series "Jour Fixe: Turkey in the 21st Century". On a regular basis, we have panel discussions on current issues related to Turkey. Additionally, we will have a book launch in December.

Jour Fixe: The Sacred and the State in Turkey

The relation between religion and politics in Turkey is a complex issue that defies master narratives based on binaries such as secular/religion or center/periphery. Especially the political developments of the last two decades and the rise of political Islam have shown time and again that the relation between religion and the state needs to be explained beyond the misleading opposition between the authoritarian secular state and the democratic challenge of religious groups. more

News from the Research Projects

The research project "TRIANGLE " will present research findings at the CETEUS annual conference on December 13-14, 2018: Narrations of EU-German/Turkish Relations. This year's CETEUS annual conference deals with reflections on the future of the EU as well as with scenarios for EU-Turkey relations.

On November 27, Prof. Dr. Wessels (Head of the project "TRIANGLE") will give a lecture about prevailing German, European and Turkish narratives on EU-Turkey relations. The presentation is part of the series of events "International Lectures" organized by the University of Cologne.
Time: 6.00-7:30 pm, Venue: Lecture Hall C (Auditorium Building 105), University of Cologne

Lecture series as part of the seminar Women's and Gender Studies in Turkey instructed by Dr. Charlotte Binder, Deniz Dağ (both research associates of the project "Women's and Gender Studies") and Prof. Dr. Betül Yarar. The lecture series starts on November 30 with the topic Politics of the Body - Sexuality at Universität Bremen.

The blog article "Difficulties of Social Policy Reform: The Case of Severance Pay" by the project "How Social is Turkey? " is now accessible in Turkish, too: Sosyal Politika Reformunun Zorluğu Üzerine: Kıdem Tazminatı Örneği

Dr. Ertuğ Tombuş edited a dossier on After the Elections, how Turkey is heading towards an Authoritarian Regime. Prof. Dr. Ece Göztepe contributed to the dossier with her essay "Turkey, the Constitutional Amendment of April 2017 as a Transition to a 'State-Presidential System". Dr. Ertuğ Tombuş is research associate and Prof. Dr. Ece Göztepe is head of the research project "Constitutional Politics II ".
